Sonder Research was founded and is solely owned by Beverley Nutter. She worked as an intelligence analyst, moving into digital forensics as a computer forensic analyst and later a senior technologist in a large UK police force. As a senior technologist Bev led an IT change programme across all forensic disciplines within force with technical projects covering forensic case management, network infrastructure upgrade, and remote viewing capabilities for officers. She was a major contributing author of the last version of the ACPO Good Practice Guide for Digital Evidence, the nationally recognised principles for conducting digital forensic examinations.
In 2015, Bev left the police to join University College London’s SECReT programme as a doctoral researcher. Her research focused on the application of machine learning techniques for solving problems in the field of digital forensics. Since then, she has worked on national digital forensic transformation projects as part of the Transforming Forensics programme, including evaluating self-service kiosk technology for the examination of mobile devices, developing the 2020 NPCC Digital Forensic Science Strategy, implementing digital forensics automation in three partner police forces and leading on the design of the response to the 2021 Home Office Rape Review, delivering frontline technology support to 24 forces.
